![]() It turned out that David was very unhappy with the name of our magazine, and suggested the far more edifying name, 'All that Glitters'. We put this to our readers on 7th July, asking them to express their preference by secret ballot. After ten days of intensive voting, the final result is now available. Hit these links for the first, second and third batches of messages we've received. Also read David Parson's response to our readers' messages. And now for the letter which started it all... Thank you for your interest in The Magazine Rack. We have looked at your website at some length. To our regret, we were unable to find any social, moral, or redeeming value. Instead, we discovered sarcasm. The whimsical factor was the binding thread of the entire magazine. King David spoke of this problem in Psalm 34:11-14: 'Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord. What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil [the crimes committed by the tongue] and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.' Admittedly, the sarcasm in your articles were not spoken words, but words all the less spoken from the heart. I would like to bring you to remembrance that we are suppose to build up the Church and not destroy it. In fact, we are neither suppose to read nor listen to those things which are not uplifting. Listen to Paul: 'Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things' (Philippians 4:8). Concerning the title of your e-zine, The Ship of Fools, Jesus warned: 'But I say unto you that...whosoever shall say, "thou fool", shall be in danger of hell fire.' I know and am convinced of the Spirit, that the Lord is not pleased with your website. Yet, in your own minds, you set out to do good. Please consider a positive approach to bring the gospel of Christ to the nations. For instance, you may wish to call the e-zine 'All that Glitters...' The latter is taken from the phrase, 'All that glitters is not gold!' Take the same articles, but instead of a heavy diet of sarcasm, temper the wrongdoings you have discovered with the Word. The 700 Club, The Salt Saver, Maranatha Journal, and numerous others tackle similar excesses every week, yet they maintain the dignity and integrity that is required of the servants of Christ. I pray you receive this in the manner it was given. Should you decide to follow the precepts outlined above, I will be happy to give you a listing. Please feel free to respond if you have any questions. An elder of the Church,
